Marrakech, also known as the pink city welcomes its visitors with a sensory overflow of sights, smells and sounds. The Medina is the ancient, walled in part of the city which was constructed in 1062 as a trading stronghold along the caravan routes from Timbuktu and other trading centres. The medina is a labyrinth of cobblestone alleyways that contain the souks (markets), riads and many of the city's cultural points of interest.

The Jemaa el Fna square is a large open air market which by day is home to vendors, snake charmers, orange juice carts, henna ladies and traditional water sellers. By night, the area comes alive with acrobats, dancers, musicians surrounded on all sides by restaurants and vendors who erect their stalls each evening for those wishing to enjoy eating under the stars!
The souk is a unique, haggling, shopping experience that is not to be missed! You can find everything here from spices, jewellery, pashminas and tagines.
